NON-GOVERNMENTAL SOCIAL CLUB SPONSOR PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN
In support with Government's recent eradication on Drug Abuse; a Non-governmental Social Club, Hope of Tomorrow engaged on a Street Campaign in Bariga Local Government on Children’s Day in other to make awareness of it and also celebrate with children.
The club which started in August 2010 is made up of youth who grew up in Bariga, Educated, and decided to give back to their community by helping the less privileges and focusing on raising a child right.
This club which commenced it's operation last year May 27th when the club celebrated children from different five public schools at Alubarika Primary school and this year they decided to take it to the street with the theme “Say No To Drug”.
The Campaign kicked off from Okuta Road; Bariga, where the club secretariat is situated covered five other streets in the Local Government among which are Olowu Street, Oluwafere Street, Alubarika Street, Surulere Street and Ogo-oluwa Street Bariga Lagos.
The children who participated on each street intellectual ability were tested with questions from all fields of study, gift items were given to all the kids such as School Bag, Writing Materials and Food Items.
In an interview with the President Oluwaseun King who said the gestures is to make the children have hope and be responsible for themselves, parent and their society.
“Because of our environment we really want to preach against Drug abuse by reaching out to the grassroots, letting them understand the usage of drugs, its abuse and consequences. The lecture starts from the home, school and society; We also notice most students go to school with Polything bag, we want them to be comfortable in going to school and also have hope irrespective of their hood” he said.
Last year the club focused on making the Bariga children happy but this year it dwells on educating them and that’s why the theme is “Say No To Drug”, it promised to do new things every year and also to go to schools and educate students about drug and its abuse every three months.
The Financial Secretary Ayodeji Ajayi said “ drug abuse is not only codeine, tramadol as we lay emphasis on but can also be an overdose of Paracetamol or Panadol, we are trying to influence the children that they can be a better person without engaging in an illegal act or job” he said.
Ayodeji also advised the children to stay true to themselves, be of moral values and not let the environment influence them.
Subsequently, funds were raised by some cooperate bodies among which are Mary-Ade Specialist Hospital, Laoye waters, and some people from the neighborhood.
Mean while, the club solicits to the government bodies to come partner with them in other to reach out to a larger unit as they desire.
